Meet Our Team
Uma Thapa & Uttam Thapa
Mentors, Consultants & Project Support Producers
Every dream has a strong foundation, and for Film Magnet Entertainment, that foundation is Uma Thapa and Uttam Thapa.
With over 35–40 years of dedicated service at Goodricke Tea Garden, Uttam Thapa worked as a factory staff member while Uma Thapa contributed through the tea nursery division. Through years of hard work, determination, and sacrifice, they provided their children with education, values, and the confidence to dream beyond limitations.
Even after retirement, they continue to be a constant source of strength and inspiration for Film Magnet Entertainment. In fact, the journey of Film Magnet began nearly six years ago from our family home in the tea garden, where their encouragement, belief, and support helped transform an idea into a growing creative production company.
Today, they remain actively involved as mentors, consultants, and project supporters, always motivating the team to stay grounded, work with integrity, support emerging talent, and create meaningful projects that positively impact people and communities.
Their life journey reminds us that success is not measured by where we begin, but by the courage to dream and the determination to keep moving forward.
For Founder & Creative Director Udip Rana, they are not only parents but the inspiration behind Film Magnet Entertainment—a reminder that when ordinary people believe in extraordinary dreams, they can help shape future generations.
UDIP RANA
Filmmaker | Creative Director | Founder, Film Magnet Entertainment
“Cinema is not a slice of life, but a piece of cake.” — Ritwik Ghatak
Born in the tea gardens of North Bengal, my journey began far away from film studios and movie sets. Raised by hardworking parents who taught me the value of perseverance, I grew up with a simple dream—to tell stories that matter.
From higher studies in Delhi to learning the craft on the sets of Mumbai, my journey through cinema has been one of passion, patience, and continuous learning. Over the last 19 years, I have worked across television, films, documentaries, commercials, and OTT platforms, evolving from an Assistant Director to Creative Director and Producer while collaborating with some of the industry’s finest talents.
For me, filmmaking is not just a profession; it is a way of understanding people, places, emotions, and life itself. Every script, every location, every frame, and every character teaches something new.
With this vision, I founded Film Magnet Entertainment, a production house operating from the Dooars, Siliguri, and Mumbai. Our team creates feature films, TV commercials, documentaries, line production, VFX, and post-production services while actively mentoring and engaging young filmmakers and media students from our region.
We have proudly delivered projects for brands and organisations including Mahindra Finance, Goodricke, Lions Club , and many others. Our first feature film, Dhaago, marked an important milestone in our storytelling journey.
I believe cinema has the power to connect local stories with global audiences.
As I often say:
“Film is not just about capturing images; it is about capturing truth, emotion, and time. Every frame should leave behind a memory.”
The dream that started in a tea garden continues today—creating meaningful stories, nurturing new talent, and pushing the boundaries of creative filmmaking.
